Robert T. Hefti, WW II Navy Veteran Remembered on Memorial Day

Robert T. Hefti in front of his childhood home in Scarsdale, NY

Robert T. Hefti of Scarsdale, NY enlisted, served and was injured during assignment in the PT Squadron in the Pacific Theater in World War II. After the war, Hefti remained loyal to American veterans serving as Commander of the Leroy Gregory American Legion Post 979 and had the honor of serving as Grand Marshall in the Memorial Day Parade.

Ironically, after many frustrating decades and miles of bureaucratic red tape, Mr. Hefti received word posthumously that thanks to the American Legion's unrelenting pursuit on Hefti's behalf, the Veterans Administration had finally acknowledged and taken responsibility for the injury he sustained on a PT boat, only to later demand that because Hefti died while waiting for this news from the VA, his widow would have to return any and all related benefits, denying Hefti's wife any of the long-sought compensation due to the Navy Veteran for the injury he sustained on a PT boat during WW II.

Along with all the other brave men and women who proudly served this nation during World War II, Hefti is lovingly remembered by his friends and family.
